fMRIflow: A Modular, Web-Based Framework for Voxelwise Encoding Models

Voxelwise encoding models (VEM) are widely used in cognitive neuroscience. Despite existing tutorials and codebases for voxelwise encoding modeling, different labs and even different members within the same lab often develop ad-hoc scripts to fit VEM. This divergence can hinder reproducibility. Furthermore, when each lab writes its own analysis code, methodological mistakes can go unnoticed and lead to incorrect scientific conclusions, even if the code is fully reproducible. A shared framework makes these choices explicit and available for collective improvement. Here, we present fMRIflow, an open-source framework that streamlines the process of building VEM workflows. The framework standardizes the VEM workflow through a module-based architecture while preserving flexibility for diverse research needs. An interactive web interface improves usability and accessibility, lowering the barrier to adoption.
