B³ net: Brain-Body-Behavior model of attention fluctuations in humans

Attentional lapses arise from spontaneous fluctuations in brain state, but tracking these fluctuations from noninvasive signals remains challenging. To bridge this gap, we developed a deep latent dynamical model that infers attentional state from peripheral physiology. The model decodes lapse versus attend trials from autonomic signals and reconstructs trial-level whole-brain blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) dynamics from the learned latent representation, outperforming single-channel linear baselines. These results suggest that attentional fluctuations are expressed in coordinated, low-dimensional brain-body dynamics.
